Head of Transportation

Location: Lansdale, PA

*Please note this is a Hybrid position and would require working in person/onsite at our office in Lansdale, PA a minimum of three days per week. Please do not apply unless you are local to Lansdale, PA and are able to work onsite a minimum of three days a week.*

The Opportunity:

The Head of Transportation is a pivotal role within Keystone, dedicated to overseeing all aspects of Keystone’s transportation services, operations, and management, all of which are outsourced to third-party providers. This position will play a crucial role in the development and execution of Keystone’s transportation strategies to support Keystone’s national presence.

The Head of Transportation works with third-party transportation providers across all modes of transportation, with a deep understanding of how strategic transportation management directly impacts the customer experience. The Head of Transportation not only navigates third-party logistics but prioritizes customer service and ensures that every transportation decision contributes positively to the customer journey.

What we offer:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect and implement a comprehensive transportation strategy for Keystone, aligning with the company's objectives and growth plans with an emphasis on the customer experience through efficient and reliable service and delivery

  • Develop transportation budget and manage transportation costs effectively, ensuring budget adherence and cost-efficiency

  • Assess complex logistics data and costs to optimize costs from distribution to the customer

  • Use analytical and problem-solving skills to develop proactive transportation strategies

  • Lead continuous improvement projects to optimize transportation to customers and transfers between warehouses with a focus on efficiency, service, quality and developing cost savings strategies

  • Implement and monitor on-time and defect-free performance metrics, implementing corrective actions and service level agreements with carriers to meet targets

  • Foster strong, collaborative relationships with key parcel and freight carriers and other third-party logistics partners, ensuring alignment with our service standards and values

  • Work closely with the warehouse operation and supply chain teams to identify opportunities to gain efficiency in internal operations (i.e. packaging solutions, storage procedures)

  • Work with internal stakeholders to forecast carrier capacity requirements.

  • Develop transportation policies that improve freight costs and reduce claims.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes that may impact transportation and logistics operations


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in logistics and transportation management, with a proven track record of success in a leadership role and extensive involvement in managing third-party providers across various modes of transportation

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications, particularly Excel

  • ERP software experience required; Prophet 21 experience preferred

  • Strong strategic planning and problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead complex projects and initiatives

  • Excellent communication and relationship management abilities, with a focus on building partnerships and team collaboration

  • Deep understanding of transportation regulations, industry standards, and best practices, with a preference for candidates with inbound transportation or logistics experience

  • Comfortable with some travel: ~10% domestic travel (to other Keystone facilities or transportation partners)
